It is Lockinge Day at Newbury and the meeting’s title race is set to go post at the earlier time of 2:35 this year and will be the final live ITV race of the day. This Group 1 has a prize fund of £400,000 and is one of the key early season races.
Richard Hannon’s Irish 2000 Guineas winner from 2024, Rosallion, heads the market but hasn’t raced since victory in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Ascot eleven months ago. Amongst the challengers are Dancing Teal for Roger Teal who won the bet365 Mile at Sandown in April, and Charlie Appleby’s Notable Speech who won last year’s 2000 Guineas and Sussex Stakes but was well beaten by Rosallion at Ascot.
Also live from Newbury will be the Group 3 Aston Park Stakes, the Listed Carnarvon Stakes and the £100k London Gold Cup handicap.
Saturday is the middle day of Newmarket’s Spring Meeting and ITV will be televising three races live from HQ. The first two races will be 7f handicaps worth £30k and £20k respectively, with a 1m handicap also worth £20k as Newmarket’s final live race.
