It is Super Saturday at Newbury and there will be four televised races on ITV from the Berkshire track. A handicap hurdle is followed by the first of two Grade 2s in the Denman Chase. Back in 2008, Denman won this contest when it was known as the Aon Chase. Denman’s trainer, Paul Nicholls, has ten wins in this race and saddles the favourite this year with Bravemansgame.
The second Grade 2 on the card is Game Spirit Chase, scheduled as the third live race from Newbury. Nicky Henderson’s Arkle favourite, Sir Gino, had been set to run but was withdrawn on Friday morning, leaving Matata, Edwardstone and Libberty Hunter vying for favouritism.
The final live race of the day is the most valuable contest of the day, the £155k William Hill Hurdle, a Premier Handicap. Last year’s winner, Iberico Lord for Nicky Henderson, will have to overcome the burden of top-weight if he is to become only the second horse to win this race in successive years.
It is Kingmaker Chase Day at Warwick, with the meeting’s title race the first of three live contests from the track. This novices’ chase carries a prize fund of £75k and has an impressive list of former winners which include Jonbon, Long Run and Flagship Uberalles. Also live from Warwick will be the Listed Unibet Mares’ Hurdle and the Unibet Middle Distance Series Veterans’ Handicap Chase.
