Saturday is Derby Day at Epsom and ITV will be televising the big race from alongside the Princess Elizabeth Stakes, the Diomed Stakes, the 3YO Dash and the Epsom Dash from the Surrey track.
- 1:00 Epsom: Princess Elizabeth Stakes – Spiritual @ 8/1
- 1:35 Epsom: Betfred Diomed Stakes – Persica @ 2/1
- 2:10 Epsom: Betfred 3YO “Dash” Handicap – Mademoiselle @ 6/1
- 2:45 Epsom: Aston Martin “Dash” Handicap – Spartan Arrow @ 7/1
- 3:30 Epsom: Betfred Derby – Ruling Court @ 4/1
The Derby will the final race televised on ITV, set to go to post at 3:30pm. With ten wins, no trainer in history has won the race on more occasions than Aidan O’Brien who saddles three runners including the favourite, Delacroix, the pick of top stable jockey Ryan Moore.
Also entered by the Irish trainer is The Lion In Winter who was the ante post favourite for many months but disappointed in last month’s Dante Stakes. The final O’Brien runner is Lambourn who won the Group 3 Chester Vase last time out.
Charlie Appleby’s Ruling Court won the opening Classic of the season, the 2000 Guineas, and is well fancied by connections and by the betting public to triumph over this longer trip. Also near the top of the betting are Dante winner Pride Of Aras for Ralph Beckett and the horse who finished second to him at York, Damysus, for John and Thady Gosden. A field of 19 runners is set to line up in what looks like a top class renewal of this famous race.
The build up to the Derby on our screens begins with two Group 3 contests in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes for fillies and mares, and the Diomed Stakes, both of which are run over 1m½f. Next are two 5f handicaps in the 3YO Dash Handicap and the Epsom Dash Handicap.
