It is Ladbrokes Trophy Day at Kempton and there will be four live races from Sunbury-on-Thames on Saturday. Opening the action is the Grade 2 Pendil Novices’ Chase, a race which Paul Nicholls has won a record 13 times. He saddles the favourite, Rubaud, who has Harry Cobden onboard.

Next from Kempton is another Grade 2, the Adonis Juvenile Hurdle which has Triumph Hurdle hopeful Mondo Man for Gary and Josh Moore at the head of the betting. The 2m Dovecote Hurdle follows which is the final Grade 2 on the card. The last live race will be the Ladbrokes Trophy itself, a Premier Handicap over 3m. Thirteen runners are set to go to post to compete for a share of the £155k prize pot.

Newcastle’s marathon Eider Handicap Chase will be the second live race on Saturday with some Grand National hopefuls on show. Last year’s winner, Anglers Crag for trainer Brian Ellison, lines up to defend his crown but there hasn’t been a winner of successive Eider Chases since Highland Wedding back in 1967. Top weight will be carried by Jonjo & A J O’Neill’s Collectors Item who is currently second in the betting behind O’Connell for Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith.

There will be two live races on the Tapeta of Southwell on their Winter Derby Day. First will be the Listed Hever Sprint Stakes over 5f. The second race will the Group 3 Winter Derby which carries a £100k purse this year. John Gosden has won the race on three occasions, including in 2023 with Lord North. The Gosden’s hopes this year will be carried by four-year-old Military Academy.
