The Listed Beeswing Mares’ Hurdle over 3m½f will be Saturday’s opening live race, with a field of nine set to line up. Jamie Snowden’s Hollywood Cha Cha won the Warwick Mares’ Hurdle, also a Listed race, last month and with the distance and going not seeming to be a problem we think will be a worthy favourite here.
The first live race from Newbury will be a novices’ hurdle over 2m½f. Likely favourite, Kocktail Bleu for Chris Gordon, put in a career best effort last time out when second in Kempton’s Gade 2 Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle. Lacy Wadham’s Cecilia Star won over this course and distance last month and may prove better value in the betting for us.
Two handicap hurdles follow, one at Kelso and one at Newbury before we return to Kelso for the £100k Herring Queen Series Final Mares’ Novices’ Handicap Hurdle. A maximum field of 16 are set to go to post, headed in the betting by Nicky Henderson’s Khrisma who carries the top weight of 12 stone. We’d prefer to have an each way punt on the Paul Nicholls runner, Beauty In The Park, who comes into this off the back of a victory at Taunton last month.
Plenty are in with a chance in Newbury’s BetVictor Home Of The Saturday Superboost Handicap Chase. Dan Skelton’s Heltenham leads the way after winning the Greatwood Gold Cup at the track in February. He’s up six pounds on official ratings from that win but can still claim victory if completing a clear round of jumping.
Tom Gretton’s Stick With Me Sam is the outsider of the field in the Kelso novices’ handicap chase but was impressive over the winter until a disappointing run last time and could get into the places here.
Newbury’s Grade 2 Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle has an open look to it with Dan Skelton, Nicky Henderson and Alan King amongst those represented. We’re opting for Richard Bandey’s Sevarana each way who has been consistent this season but found the 1m7f trip at Wincanton too sharp a fortnight ago.
Bangor’s sole live race is a Class 2 handicap hurdle worth £30k. Olly Murphy’s The Four Sixes won this race last year and although he will carry 9lbs more he won with plenty in hand in 2025 and can at least pick up a place.
The televised racing concludes with the most valuable race of the day in the Goffs Hundred Grand Bumper. Keep an eye out for the all-important market moves but our pick at this stage goes to Keltype for Rebecca Curtis who was a 15l winner of a NH Flat Race at Chepstow back in January.
