Goodwood’s ‘Glorious’ meeting comes to a close on Saturday. ITV Racing broadcast live from the downs, bringing us four live races from there as well as two from the July Course at Newmarket.
The feature race at Goodwood is the famous Stewards’ Cup, a heritage handicap over six furlongs. We should have a maximum field of 28 for the big race making it a real betting challenge for punters.
Elsewhere on the card there are two pattern races beginning with the opening contest, the Group 3 Glorious Stakes over a mile and a half. Horses of the quality of Poet’s Word and Rebel’s Romance have taken this in the past, while Hamish won it last year. Lion’s Pride is undoubtedly the value in a tight opening race.
The Group 2 Lillie Langtry at 3.00 is a staying race for the fillies and mares. After a good pipe-opener at York, class filly Free Wind should be the one to beat. The Class 2 Summer Handicap is our other Goodwood contest featuring notable improvers Align The Stars, Fairbanks and True Legend among others.
Newmarket stages a relatively low-key card by their standards. A nursery handicap and a Listed race (Chalice Stakes) are on offer for us, red-hot Rab Havlin riding Lmay in the latter.
