Saturday Racing Tips for 4th April 2026 (Musselburgh & Haydock)

ITV will have nine live races this Saturday with action on the flat from Musselburgh’s Scottish Sprint Cup Day and over jumps at Haydock’s Easter Family Fun Day.

  • 1:25 Musselburgh: Virgin Bet A Good Bet Royal Mile Handicap – Comic Hero @ 9/4
  • 1:55 Musselburgh: Livescore Bet Silver Arrow Handicap – A War Eagle @ 13/2
  • 2:12 Haydock: Pertemps Network Challenger Two Mile Hurdle Series Final Handicap Hurdle – Ice In The Veins @ 11/2
  • 2:30 Musselburgh: Virgin Bet Goliath Cup Stakes – Al Qareem @ 4/5
  • 2:46 Haydock: Pertemps Network Challenger Stayers Hurdle Series Final Handicap Hurdle – Heather Honey @ 8/1
  • 3:05 Musselburgh: Virgin Bet Daily Price Boost Queen’s Cup Handicap – Moon Over Miami @ 9/2
  • 3:20 Haydock: Unibet Middle Distance Veterans’ Handicap Chase – Triple Trade @ 12/1
  • 3:42 Musselburgh: Virgin Bet Scottish Sprint Cup Handicap – Jer Batt @ 6/1
  • 3:55 Haydock: JCB Fastrac Handicap Chase – Bonza Boy @ 4/1

ITV’s opening live race on Saturday will be Musselburgh’s Royal Mile Handicap. At the top of the market there is little to separate Andrew Balding’s Comic Hero, Charlie Johnston’s Vincenzo Peruggia and Karl Burke’s Strength Of Spirit. Marginal preference is for the Balding runner after showing plenty of promise when winning at short odds at Kempton in February.

Katie Scott’s Gweedore won the Silver Arrow Handicap in 2023 and was second in 2025 behind David and Nicola Barron’s Persuasion, both of whom are set to line up again on Saturday. Our pick however goes to Michael and David Easterby’s A War Eagle who has youth on his side at four years old and is open to plenty of improvement after a consistent three-year-old campaign.

Haydock’s opening live race will be the Two Mile Hurdle Series Final. Dan Skelton’s Ice In The Veins has been beaten by 41l and 16l in his two starts this year but those were both on slow going carrying 12st and this grey should be better suited to conditions here.

With a prize fund of £80k, the Listed Goliath Cup is Musselburgh’s most valuable race of the day. Karl Burke’s Al Qareem is the class runner in the field and looks difficult to oppose.

Haydock’s Stayers Hurdle Series Final has an open looking feel with chances to be argued for all of the thirteen-runner field. Our each way pick goes to Joel Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith’s Heather Honey who won well at the track just last month.

In Musselburgh’s Queen’s Cup, Dan Skelton’s Gambino is very unexposed having only had four runs and never finishing outside of the top three. We think it might be worth siding Ralph Beckett’s Moon Over Miami however, who hasn’t been seen since winning a class 2 handicap at Newbury a year ago.

Joe Tizzard’s Triple Trade is our pick for the Veterans’ Handicap Chase ahead of the Musselburgh meeting’s title race, the Scottish Sprint Cup. David and Nicola Barron’s Jer Batt was third in this last year and has dropped to a competitive mark despite a solid sprint campaign last season.

The last of the televised racing comes from Haydock with the 2m4f JCB Fastrac Handicap Chase.
