Saturday Racing Tips for 2nd August 2025 (Goodwood & Newmarket)

This Saturday’s live ITV coverage comes from Goodwood and Newmarket. The first five races from the ‘Glorious’ meeting and two more from HQ make for a seven-race live schedule.

  • 1:20 Goodwood: Coral Glorious Stakes – Meydaan @ 6/1
  • 1:55 Goodwood: Coral Summer Handicap – Duraji @ 11/1
  • 2:10 Newmarket: British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies Nursery Handicap – Azleet @ 4/1
  • 2:30 Goodwood: Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes – Danielle @ 12/1
  • 3:05 Goodwood: Coral Stewards’ Cup – Hammer The Hammer @ 15/2
  • 3:20 Newmarket: British Stallion Studs EBF Chalice Stakes – Silent Love @ 7/2
  • 3:45 Goodwood: Whispering Angel Handicap – Mudbir @ 13/2

The live coverage gets going with the mile and a half Glorious Stakes at Group 3 level. The popular Al Aasy may yet get his ground, but Meydaan loves it here, will appreciate some cut himself, has the help of Ryan Moore and gets some handy weight from the top one.

The Coral Summer Handicap is run over 1¾ miles. and it’ll take some getting off what might be a decent pace. French Duke will be popular and seems well handicapped, but a chance is taken on Duraji. Trained by Dermot Weld in Ireland, he clearly has ability and also has Ryan Moore booked for the ride.

The two live races from Newmarket start with a fillies’ nursery, and it could be a muddling one. It’s hard to see who is really ahead of their mark, but most likely is Stuart Williams’ Azleet and she’s decent value too. In the Chalice Stakes, it’s worth taking a chance on the talented improver Silent Love for Charlie Appleby.

Danielle had the option of that race too, but John Gosden has chosen to go over the extra two furlongs in the Group 2 Lillie Langtry at Goodwood instead. If the softer ground remains, this is right up her street. Stablemate Sueno can’t be overlooked either, but Danielle is the better filly in on soft ground.

The Stewards’ Cup is the big betting race of the day. The rain came after final declarations, but two who may not mind it are Purosangue and Hammer The Hammer. The vote goes to the latter, a real eyecatcher at Royal Ascot who got through the Tapeta surface easily and may appreciate cut in the ground. He’s certainly well handicapped.

Finally, the Whispering Angel handicap over seven furlongs can go the way of the rapidly improving Mudbir. He made a good debut for the Gosdens last autumn on soft ground before winning first time up this season. He was a winner at Sandown last time too and is ahead of the assessors. Conditions should be fine on the day.
