There will be seven races broadcast live this week on both the flat and over jumps. Newbury on the flat will have four televised races with two handicap hurdles and a handicap chase from Market Rasen.
It is Weatherbys Super Sprint Day at Newbury and their first televised race will be the listed Steventon Stakes, with last year winner Al Aasy looking for a double in the race. The second Newbury race is the Mettal UK Handicap, a class 2 contest over 2m½f.
The Group 3 Hackwood Stakes also see’s last year’s winner lining-up with Commanche Falls looking to get back on track after a disappointing showing as the favourite last time out at the Curragh. The final ITV race from Newbury, and indeed of the day, will be their headline act, the Weatherbys Super Sprint. This hugely competitive sprint will be worth over £262k and has been won four times in the last ten years by trainer Richard Hannon.
Joining Newbury on our screens will be some summer jumps action from Market Rasen. The course is celebrating their centenary at this year’s Summer Plate Day, and the £250,000 on offer makes this their most valuable raceday ever. The Unibet Handicap Hurdle and Summer Handicap Hurdle will build up to their big race, the Summer Plate Handicap Chase, which has had its prize fund boosted this year to a mammoth £100,000.
